A Place to Grow by Eileen Kane

This month’s puzzle spotlights a quilt titled A Place to Grow made by Eileen Kane of Oak Ridge, North Carolina for the 2012 Quilt Alliance contest and auction, Home Is Where the Quilt Is.

Cotton batiks, polyester and rayon threads, cotton batting, raw edge fusing, machine and free motion quilting

Artist’s Statement

A home is a place where seeds are sown. The seeds are fertilized and warmed with love from the family and friends. As the flowers bloom and multiply, they share their colors with the world. A home is a place to grow and to become. I used a layering method to form the sky and the ground. The stems and flowers were then fused and free-motion quilted.
