Recharge + Reinvent: A Virtual Retreat for Quilt Guild Leaders will happen October 18-20. This special weekend virtual gathering combines the elements of a must-attend seminar with the vibe, fun and connection of a quilt retreat — complete with door prizes of quilting goodies from IQM’s generous sponsors.
Tickets for this special weekend will go on sale Monday, August 19 at noon for $50. The R + R event starts Friday night and includes programming blocks of about four hours on Saturday and Sunday. Here are some program highlights to whet your appetite:
- Keynote speaker Victoria Findlay Wolfe is a notable artist, teacher, designer, author and founder of the first modern quilt guild in Manhattan.
- Lyric Kinard, co-founder of the Global Quilt Connection which brings guilds and teachers together will lead a panel on creating compelling guild programs on a budget, joined by panelists who have done just that for their own guilds.
- Belle Brunner is a quilt entrepreneur with a background in non-profit consulting and she’ll cover tough issues like how to attract and train new guild leadership.
- A’donna Richardson, founder of the nonprofit African American Quilt Documentation Study Group will share her expertise in documenting the stories of guilds.
- Not only that, experts at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska will take you behind the scenes of the collection and share exquisite masterpiece quilts. You’ll learn how to take great care of your own quilts from the people responsible for 8,000 of them. Quilt Alliance staff will round out the program with practical tips forcreating low-cost programming that also preserves your guild’s history.
Ticket holders will be able to watch recordings of all these exceptional presentations after the event, complete with the Q + A sessions. So don’t worry if you can’t attend every session.
