Celebrating National Quilting Day 2021!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Spring is coming, the birds are singing, and best of all: today is National Quilting Day, a whole day dedicated to celebrating the art and community of quilts.

How will you be celebrating? Check out this video from QA Executive Director and National Quilt Museum staff with a few ideas to make today special and share quilts with everyone around you.

As our gift to all our quilt friends this National Quilting Day, the Quilt Alliance has put together some videos for you to watch this weekend while you quilt, or relax with some me time.

StoryBee Interviews

StoryBee is a members-only web series from the nonprofit Quilt Alliance. It’s a way for us to say “thank you!” to our members and to come together to enjoy stories from prominent quilt lovers across the country (and the world). We visit the studios and workspaces of amazing quiltmakers, all hosted by writer and quilter Frances O’Roark Dowell.

You can see short teasers for each episode below. Sample these amazing interviews and join us as a Quilt Alliance member to receive this kind of content every month!

Quilt Stories from National Quilting Day

Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! is a Quilt Alliance project designed to capture quilt stories where quilters gather. They feature one person talking about one quilt in front of one camera for up to three minutes–quick and easy quilt stories! And what better day to document your favorite quilt than National Quilting Day? Here are two collections of Go Tell It! videos recorded on past National Quilting Days, from the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Artistic Artifacts, an amazing fiber arts shop in Alexandria, Virginia.

QSOS interview with Dindga McCannon

This Quilters’ S.O.S. – Save Our Stories (QSOS) interview with quiltmaker Dindga McCannon–conducted by Dr. Carolyn L. Mazloomi–was recorded as part of our 2020 Quilters Take a Moment virtual fundraiser and available only to QTM 2020 ticket holders. We’re including it today because it’s a fantastic conversation between two quiltmaking legends and in hopes that you will join us for QTM 2021. This year, Dr. Mazloomi will interview quiltmaker Bisa Butler for the QSOS project!

If you enjoyed this interview–or any of the amazing quilt stories on this page–consider registering for Quilters Take a Moment 2021, happening online this September. It will be chock-full of inspiring conversations, beautiful quilts, and connections with the quilting community. Tickets are on sale for Quilt Alliance members now, and for non-members starting March 22. We’ve got many great speakers and events planned–you won’t want to miss this two-day celebration of quilts and quiltmakers!
