Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Interim Executive Director will guide the organization for approximately 9–12 months (or longer, as needed).

This fully remote role requires a collaborative leader who can effectively coordinate across a diverse network of board members, partners, contractors, and supporters, while stewarding the organization’s programs, communications, and resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary liaison among the Board, Quilt Alliance partners, contractors, members, and supporters.
  • Facilitate communication and information-sharing related to programming and member services.
  • Oversee organizational communications, including newsletters, social media, and other external messaging.
  • Ensure consistent, clear, and mission-aligned communications to members, partners, and the public.
  • Coordinate communications efforts with contractors as applicable.
  • Provide financial oversight in coordination with the Office Manager and contract Bookkeeper (hands-on accounting skills are not required).
  • Monitor budgets, cash flow, and financial reporting; support the Board in fiscal decision-making.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.

You may be a good fit if you have:

    • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit management or equivalent experience with nonprofit operations, governance, and financial oversight
    • Experience working within the quilt world, textile arts, or allied cultural/heritage organizations, with a strong understanding of the quiltmaking community
    • Strong writing and communication skills and ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including a board of directors, members, donors, and Quilt Alliance partners
    • Great project management and coordination skills, managing multiple projects, contractors, and priorities
    • Some experience or comfort with interim or transitional nonprofit leadership
    • Comfortable with serving as a central point of contact for inquiries and information flow, but with support from former staff and Quilt Alliance board!
